Launched the first central back-seat airbag of the World

Innovation and development always surprise us when are applied to vehicles. At this time, the surprise comes from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) who has announced the development of an SRS airbag (Supplemental Restraint System) for the central back-seat, the first in the world that help to reduce the severity of secondary injuries suffered by passengers in the back seats in case of side impacts.

The new air bag is mounted on a big fixed center console in the back seat, available in a version of a Toyota model wich be launched in Japan in the near future. When the vehicle suffers a side impact, the airbag is deployed from the top of the console as a barrier that helps to reduce injuries caused by the collision of passengers among them or against the console.

This latest development adds to the safety helmet with airbag, which was intended to protect the cervical and dorsal area. The airbag is activated in 0.15 seconds after a signal is sent from under the seat of the bike. The widget has a system that is deployed when detect a collision and deploys an air bag through the cervical area until the seventh vertebra. Is integrated into the back of the helmet.

The helmet incorporates a radio frequency signal system and a rechargeable battery similar to the mobile. The operation of the airbag is activated from a control unit located under the seat, which manages the information of the motorcycle in motion, detects the crash and sends the order by radiofrecuency to the helmet. The helmet is available in three colors -black, gray and white- and in four sizes.
