The decrease in car sales due to the crisis, has not been an impediment to the great excitement that started the Geneva Auto Salon, in its 79 edition. Over one hundred of new models were presented to the 700,000 visitors who were be able to observe how the ecology and vanguard technology were the common denominators of this meeting.

February data was negative for automotive world. Car sales fell 48.8% in Spain, reflecting the global slump. Despite the current gloom, the 79 edition of the Geneva Auto Salon, held from 3 to March 15, started with assistance from many manufacturers.

About 700,000 visitors come to this veteran exhibition, where the brands had 250 stands, to expose hundreds of new features. Some were more austere than in previous editions, such as giant General Motors. Despite this, the sensations are good and all brands expects a quick exit to their real prototypes and designs, like the new Volkswagen Polo and Fiat 500C or the six models presented by Renault: Scénic, Mégane Sport Tourer, Clio, the Mégane Renault Sport and Clio Renault Sport.

Also the new Toyota car, will debute at the fair Verso, like the Peugeot 3008 and the BMW 5 Series GT Concept. Chevrolet will produce a full range of cars powered by LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and Land Rover bid by the hybrid diesel ERAD.

The leading edge technology designed to care and protect the environment was the queen of this event. Seven corridors from the 5000 square meters of the exhibition are dedicated to so-called green cars. Opel and its electrical model Ampera are a good example of this work towards a balance between development and environmentalism.

In addition, the Tesla electric vehicle held a top place, with acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 4 seconds and autonomy for 390 kilometers. Finally, speaking about the future, Rinspeed will propose an original modular car, which lengthens and shortens at will and drive, in part, through an iPhone.
